I chose the Novatac Wichita over the Novatac Storm and other Novatac products because the primary brightness setting of the Wichita is 60 lumens for 1.5 hours, that is just enough light to work by outdoors, or in dark-coloured spaces. Other Novatac flashlights offer a 30 lumen (4 hour) brightness level which isn't quite enough light for comfortable outdoor night activities like finding the way home, or barbecuing. Alternatively, the battery-sucking 120 lumen option of most other Novatac products will kill a $2 CR123 battery in 30 minutes. That's very expensive to run. For example, if every day I use 120 lumens barbecuing for 15 minutes, then walk the dog for 15 minutes, then work in the shed for 15 minutes it will cost me $3 per day in batteries. That's $90 bucks per month - unacceptable for an EDC (every day carry) flashlight. That's why I went for the 60 lumen Wichita, over the Storm.
The Wichita also offers the choices of 10 lumens for extended indoor runtime or in light coloured spaces like snow-paths, and 0.4 lumens for a kiddie night-light or a reading light. A 120 lumen burst is also possible, though as mentioned, only for a half hour.
The things I like about the Novatac Wichita are the small pretty shape, durable construction, and near-perfect spill-beam. The Wichita is also easy to use. One click gives you 60 lumens which is a good start to most dark tasks. My particular Wichita's LED produces a high color rendering index (CRI) light that is really nice to use. I purchased my Wichita for bargain $59 + $8 delivery which places it in competition with the likes of Fenix flashlights. Because of the low cost, I don't expect as much out of my Novatac as I would say a $120 Olight or Surefire.
The things I do not like about my Wichita are the plastic lens which is prone to scratching, the low run-time per battery life, and the fact that it does not offer a strobe level. The strobe may be used as a highway beacon in an emergency, and the Wichita just doesn't have it. As a tactical flashlight the Novatac's 120 lumen burst does not compare to other tactical lights offering 300 - 500 lumen bursts.
The Novatac Wichita is smaller than the RA Clicky, though not nearly as well made or as powerful. RA offers a 170 lumen model, and longer run-times.
